An unusual Victorian cameo brooch. The cameo is carved from chalcedony and banded agate.
It makes for a dramatic and interesting and very durable antique brooch. The profile looks like Aristotle, or a Roman Emperor. The brooch is dated to circa 1880, and whilst the carving would have been originally done in Italy, the origin of the brooch is English; it is well made from 15 Carat Yellow Gold.
A wonderfully different antique cameo brooch, it looks great pinned onto different colours and textures; or just to put on your favourite black jacket!
The brooch measures a circle of 3.8 cms in diameter.
