Sterling Silver english oval locket featuring aesthetic decoration, here a bird motif.
The aesthetic movement from around 1885-1901 formed part of the Victorian era, the jewellery of the time became less formal and more delicate, there was a focus on nature and simplicity. This was the precursor to the Art Nouveau era of jewellery.
This locket is hallmarked with the Birmingham assay marks, marking it as being made in 1905, in Birmingham in the UK.
In excellent condition this is a lovely solid old sterling silver locket on a long belcher chain. It is both decorative, and yet, strikingly simple. It would make a great gift and a future family heirloom.
This locket is currently on a sterling silver belcher chain measuring 75 cms, the chain is not old, but an antique style. It could be sold either on the chain or on its own; please ask Inga for more details.
