A beautifully made hand carved mother of pearl pendant set in 15 carat rose gold. Early Australian, these pendants were popular around the turn of the century. They were Edwardian, pre Art Deco and were mainly delicate carvings of floral designs. So pretty. This one features a flowering pear design. The striking thing about these pendants is the way the gold at the back of the carving gleams and is a mirrored backing for the opalescent pearl, the effect is one of contrasting gold and silver.
This pendant is marked at the back with early Australian hallmarks, it is in perfect condition.
I can see it on a bride, lovely for the day, and then perfect to keep wearing afterwards! It is certainly something old, and it is also something special. A future family heirloom.
The pendant is 3 cms long and 1.8 cms wide.
